Kristan Norton

Vote Kristan Norton for Utah State Board of Education

About Kristan

Kristan is a lifelong resident of District 15. She was born in Cedar City and started her public education in Iron County at Cedar North Elementary. After moving to Washington County, she attended West Elementary, Woodward Jr. High, Dixie High School and Dixie College in St. George. She later obtained both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at SUU.

Her great-great grandfathers John Vorley Adams and Robert Bulloch helped settle Iron County and were heavily involved with education. Her Hulet relatives, Oscar, Rex and Kent, have been stalwarts in the Iron County School District. Both of her parents were educators. Her mother, Uldene Adams Norton, was the librarian at Cedar Middle School and a third-grade teacher at West Elementary in St. George. Her father, Coach Hal Norton, was the football and track coach at Cedar High School and the athletic director at Dixie College. Kristan is the proud mom of one son, Presten and loves being a grandma to Tucker.

Spending the last four months walking the neighborhoods of Iron and Washington counties while talking to the residents has been a highlight of this campaign. It was very beneficial to visit with old friends and meet many new ones while listening to their current concerns and new ideas.

Perspective

Kristan will be a knowledgeable voice for students, parents, teachers and
educational leaders in Iron and Washington Counties. Her time in the
classroom has given her invaluable experience with Utah’s most precious
resource, our children. She knows that every child can be a contributing
member of their community and in this ever-changing society, our students
deserve an education that will have them well prepared for their future.

Three important priorities that Kristan will share at the state level are:

Local Control

Educational Equity

Student Preparation for the Future

Local Control

The residents of District 15 have elected strong state legislators, knowledgeable school board members and committed community council members at each school. These residents are recognized statewide for their leadership and success. Our elected leaders best know and understand OUR area and they should be the ones who are making the decisions for OUR local schools.

Educational Equality

The educational resources secured by the State of Utah are intended to be used by all districts, not just those who are living in a central area. Whether it be professional development classes for teachers, computer software or grants for educational opportunities, these resources need to be equitably distributed throughout the state.

Student Preparation For The Future

Our generation is responsible to provide the knowledge, skills, training and culture to ensure that these students are well prepared to be successful citizens, leaders, employees and future parents. We need to teach them how to learn, how to work, and how to lead.
